Book Review: Stop Saying You’re Fine – The No-BS Guide to Getting What you Want (Harmony, 2012)

Stop Saying You’re Fine: The No-BS Guide to Getting What You Want

I had thMel Robbins: Stop Saying You're Finee privilege of meeting Mel Robbins in October, 2015 at PSI Seminars, in California. At the time, she was focusing on the work of her new book, The 5 Second Rule which is due to be released, early 2017.

In short, Mel has an energetic, practical, nonsense and relatable approach to simple-but-powerful mental and behavioural hacks that serve to empower us to be pilots in our lives, versus passengers.

Ever feel like your life is on a hamster wheel? Start-stop-start and repeat, day-in-day-out seems to be the Modus Operandi for many of us.

Quite simply, many of us tend to avoid change and seek the safety and comfort of the ordinary. Ironically, the very comfort that we navigate toward is the very thing that keeps us stuck. As such, we ‘flatline’ in our relationships, in our careers and in our personal lives.

Watch Mel’s TED Talk here:

Mel Robbins’ book, Stop Saying You’re Fine is an, actionable, slap-in-the-face yet light-hearted approach to flipping the proverbial switch in our personal programming so that we can live more purposeful lives.

I hope you enjoyed this review and if you have any questions about Mel Robbins’ Book, or want to leave your  own personal review, please do so below.

Mark Nepo - One You Feed Podcast

The One You Feed Podcast is a favourite of mine. The show host, Eric Zimmer, is both humble and insightful, and has a cool and calm presence about him that is as comfortable as it is familiar. While I’ve never met the man, he just seems like the kind of guy you’d want to have a Cup O’Joe with and chat. (Eric, that’s an invite if you’re ever north of the border.)

Eric kicks off each podcast with the parable of the two wolves.

A grandfather is talking with his grandson and he says there are two wolves inside of us which are always at war with each other.

One of them is a good wolf which represents things like kindness, bravery and love. The other is a bad wolf, which represents things like greed, hatred and fear.

The grandson stops and thinks about it for a second then he looks up at his grandfather and says, “Grandfather, which one wins?”

The grandfather quietly replies, the one you feed.

In this podcast, Eric interviews Mark Nepo, cancer survivor, author and poet whose prose is rich with wisdom and draws brilliant parallels between the natural world and our own lives.

I think you’ll find some great insights here and I would love to hear what you take away from the interview and how you can apply some of Mark’s insights in your own life. Give it a listen and comment below!
